Music MANAGEMENT DEAL ASSESSMENT

Getting approached by a manager is exciting. It should be. Someone in the industry has seen what you’re doing and thinks you’re worth their time.

A Good Management Deal Works For Both Sides

Excitement is also the moment when it’s easiest to sign something you haven’t fully understood.

Most management agreements I have read have not been written with the artist’s interests as the first priority. That’s not an accusation; this is a business and it’s very much how the industry works. The terms that get glossed over in an initial conversation are often the ones that matter most two or three years down the line.

Before You Sign Anything.

Commission structures that apply to income streams you built before you ever met this person. Notice periods that make it harder to leave than you realised. Post-term clauses that follow you long after the relationship has ended.

If you’ve been approached by a manager for the first time, or you’re already managed and someone new has come along with what sounds like a better offer, or you’re about to sign something and something feels slightly off, this is what the Music Management Deal Assessment is for.

THE PROCESS

Section by section

Assessments start from £300. More complex situations, or where you need me to compare two agreements side by side, may affect the final fee. Scope and cost are always confirmed before any work begins.

Starting With The Terms Themselves.

I go through the agreement in forensic detail. Commission rates and what they apply to. The contract term and how realistic the exit provisions actually are. Accounting periods and how transparent they are. Any post-term commission clauses. How the agreement compares to what you were told verbally when it was first put in front of you.

From Review to Report

What you get is a plain language written report. This is not legal advice. However, if the review raises concerns that need a solicitor or legal review, I’ll tell you that clearly and point you in the right direction. This is independent industry advisory from someone who has been on both sides of these conversations.

Is it a good deal? What do all the terms mean? What affect will this have long term? One agreement, one report. Turnaround is typically one to two weeks.

LETS GET STARTED

Enquire

If you have been approached by a manager or are reviewing a deal before you sign, I will go through the contract with you in full. Commission structure, term length, reversion clauses, post-term commission tails, all of it explained clearly, with a written summary of anything that needs attention.
